Surface Finishes for Automation Parts

We offer 30+ metal alloys and hundreds of high-performance plastics for prototyping to full-scale production, with finishing options to enhance durability and performance.

As machined

Passivation process

The default finish straight from CNC machining like cnc milling, cnc turning, or cnc drilling  with no secondary treatment. Visible tool marks, feed lines, and end mill paths remain on the surface, with a typical Ra of 1.6–6.3 µm. Edges may carry slight burrs. The most cost-effective finish suitable for functional components, internal parts, brackets, and any application where cosmetic appearance is secondary to dimensional accuracy and cost. Often followed by deburring or other secondary finishes as needed.

as-machined

Passivation process

The foundational corrosion protection layer for automotive bodies and chassis. Parts are immersed in a water-based paint bath and an electric current deposits a uniform, pinhole-free primer film on every surface including recesses and cavities. Provides excellent corrosion resistance and serves as the base for subsequent paint layers. Standard for all automotive body-in-white, frames, and structural components.

E-Coating

Passivation process

Electrostatic dry powder paint applied to wheels, chassis brackets, suspension components, and trim, then thermally cured for a durable, chip-resistant finish. Available in any RAL color with matte, satin, or gloss sheens. Provides excellent corrosion and UV resistance and the standard finish for alloy wheels, underbody components, and exterior trim requiring durability and color consistency.

Powder Coating

Passivation process

Electrochemical deposition of a bright, hard, highly reflective chromium layer (typically over nickel undercoat) on exterior trim, door handles, grilles, bumpers, and decorative accents. Provides a premium mirror-like appearance with excellent corrosion and scratch resistance. Widely used in automotive exterior styling from classic chrome bumpers to modern trim accents for a distinctive, high-end aesthetic.

Plating-(Chrome-Nickel-Gold)

Passivation process

Electrochemical process creating a hard, corrosion-resistant, dyeable aluminum oxide layer on aluminum wheels, interior trim, engine components, and structural brackets. Available in any color like black, gunmetal, silver, blue, red. Provides wear protection, improved corrosion resistance, and a premium colored finish. Widely used for aftermarket wheels, interior trim pieces, pedal sets, and engine bay components.

Anodizing

Passivation process

The standard multi-layer finish for automotive body panels: primer → color base coat (solid, metallic, or pearl) → transparent clear coat for gloss, UV protection, and scratch resistance. Produces a deep, high-gloss, durable finish with excellent color retention. The defining aesthetic finish for all vehicle exteriors available in thousands of colors with solid, metallic, pearl, and matte effects.

Automotive-Paint

Passivation process

Hot-dip galvanizing immerses steel chassis, underbody brackets, and structural components in molten zinc, creating a thick, corrosion-resistant zinc-iron alloy coating with a characteristic spangled pattern. Provides excellent long-term corrosion protection for outdoor and underbody applications. Standard for automotive frames, chassis components, brackets, and any steel part exposed to road salt, moisture, and harsh underbody conditions.

Galvanized

Passivation process

Chemical conversion coating creates a uniform matte black finish on steel fasteners, bolts, nuts, brackets, and small hardware. Minimizes light reflection, provides mild corrosion protection (often enhanced with oil or wax topcoat), and does not affect dimensional accuracy. Widely used for automotive fasteners, interior hardware, engine compartment components, and any steel part requiring a non-reflective black finish without plating thickness.

Black-Oxide

Passivation process

Mechanical process bombarding the surface with small spherical media (steel shot, glass beads) to create a uniform dimpled texture and induce compressive residual stresses, significantly improving fatigue resistance. Essential for high-stress engine components like connecting rods, crankshafts, gears, valve springs, and suspension components. The peened surface also improves lubricant retention and reduces crack propagation in cyclically loaded automotive parts.

Shot Peening

Passivation process

Vacuum deposition process applying a thin, hard, wear-resistant metallic coating (titanium nitride, chromium nitride, zirconium nitride) in various colors such as gunmetal, black, bronze, gold. Produces a premium, durable, scratch-resistant finish with excellent color stability. Used for high-end automotive interior trim, gear shift knobs, door handles, badges, and luxury vehicle accents requiring a refined metallic appearance with superior durability over traditional plating.

PVD Coating for Aerospace Industry

Passivation process

High-temperature resistant ceramic-based coating applied to brake calipers, exhaust components, engine parts, and underbody heat shields. Withstands temperatures up to 1000°C+ while providing a smooth, glossy, durable finish in vibrant colors (red, yellow, blue, black). Protects against heat, corrosion, chemicals, and road debris. Popular for performance brake calipers, exhaust manifolds, turbo housings, and any automotive component requiring heat resistance with a premium colored finish.
